In a bid to tackle overcrowding at one of Italy’s most popular tourist attractions, visitors hoping to visit the Trevi Fountain in Rome will now have to pay €2 admission fee.
Implemented by the City of Rome, the new admission fee for the Trevi Fountain has been rolled out alongside a €5 tourist ticket fee for other museums throughout the city.
The series of new tourist fees are imposed in a bid to manage crowds, and tourist flow at some of Rome’s most popular sights.
Between the hours of 9am and 10pm, international and domestic visitors are required to pay the fee, with Monday and Fridays seeing the fee begin from 11:30am. Rome residents are not required to pay the fee.
The admission fee is payable online in advance of your visit, with an estimation by city officials that the scheme will generate about €8.5 million a year.
