ABTA has produced a new short video to advise customers about five things they should consider when taking out travel insurance before they go away this summer.

Launched across ABTA’s social media channels today on TwitterFacebook and Instagram, ABTA is encouraging Members to share the advice with their customers either by sharing ABTA’s posts to their feeds or downloading it from ABTA’s marketing toolkit here: Customer information and advice | ABTA

With this new video, ABTA is encouraging customers to ensure they have the right travel insurance cover for their upcoming holiday and to ensure they have considered the five points mentioned in the video before they travel:

  1. Take out your insurance policy as soon as you book your holiday, this means you get benefit from the protection straight away, such as cover for costs if you have to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances illnesses.
  2. Before you travel, tell your travel insurer about any pre-existing medical conditions, and check you’re covered for any activities you plan to do on holiday.
  3. Travel insurance policies vary so make sure you’re clear on what your policy does and doesn’t cover.
  4. Make sure you have a General Health Insurance Card (GHIC) as well as travel insurance for travel in Europe. If you have a European Health insurance (EHIC) this will still be accepted until its expiry date. If your EHIC has expired then you can apply for a GHIC at gov.uk.
  5. Popular holiday destinations like Turkey, Dubai, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia are not covered by a European policy, so check with your insurer on which policy is best.

The video is hosted on ABTA’s Travel insurance advice page, which offers lots of information and advice to help customers understand why taking out travel insurance is crucial when they book their holiday – whether it’s a domestic break or overseas.
