Northern Ireland Travel News looks back at a lifetime of dedication and true passion from media stalwart, Gerry Kelly, after learning of his sad passing. The presenter was best known for his lively interviews and broadcasting capabilities across multiple platforms. His weekly talk show became a household name across its 15 years of showing on UTV, with an interview with 8 year-old Rory McIlory namely becoming ones of his most famous episodes on the Gerry Kelly Show.
Now one of Northern Ireland’s most recognisable faces, the sad news came on Sunday morning (26th July) announcing his death whilst surrounded by family. Tributes have been posted across various media outlets from those that knew him well, including passed colleagues, politicians and previous interviewees.
Gerry also showcased his talent for presenting whilst taking up the role of host at the annual Northern Ireland Travel and Tourism Awards in 2014 and 2015. Warm, funny and ever professional, his enthusiasm and friendly nature lit up the stage at the Slieve Donard hotel. His noted attendance at NI Travel News’ Golf Classic is fondly remembered by travel trade and NI Travel News staff also.

Speaking on his passing, Jonathan Adair, Managing Director of NI Travel News, said “I was sadden to hear of the passing of Gerry. A true legend who had been associated with NI Travel News as our host of the NI Travel and Tourism Awards in the Slieve Donard, and as a participant in the annual NITN Golf Classic. He was always just Gerry, a true professional and wonderful company. It was always a pleasure to work with him. My thoughts are with Helena and the family, and to all his friends, he will be sadly missed.”
