It’s been a ‘cracker’ summer in Derry~Londonderry so far this year and the good news is that we are only halfway through with plenty of fantastic events and nightlife planned to give you the perfect reason to visit the North West.

Fresh from the success of the LegenDerry Food Festival and the Foyle Maritime Festival which attracted over 150,000 people, there is a real buzz in the area with lots of great value for money activities lined up for the rest of the summer period.

When the daytime events finish the city’s nightlife will keep you entertained with a variety of bars, many of which offer live music sessions every night.

As well as some great places to enjoy a drink, the city has a well-established reputation as a foodie destination with hotels, restaurants, cafes and street food vendors using the very best local produce to put the North West on a plate.

Maiden City Festival, continues until August 13

Now in its 25th year, the Maiden City Festival presents an exciting mix of entertainment for all age groups. Around 30,000 people are expected to either see or take part in some aspect during the festival. Festival Highlights include; Siege Tales, Skirl of the Pipes, The Siege Story, Relief of Londonderry Pageant and the Relief of Londonderry Celebrations. Gasyard Wall Féile, August 13-21

This is the biggest community and arts festival in the North West, attracting over 20,000 people annually to the programme of events which takes place across the Bogside, Brandywell, Creggan, Bishop Street and Fountain neighbourhoods as well as the City centre. Events range in form from music, literature, sport, education, visual arts, carnival, fun days, health, discussions, lectures, conferences, community consultation and tours.

The Guildhall Square welcomes the very best of artisan traders, offering visitors a family friendly shopping experience with a wide selection of speciality foods and handcrafted products. Tickle your taste buds with homemade jams, chutneys & sauces, artisan breads & cakes, a range organic meats and of course some sweet treats! With children’s entertainment and live music.

Culture Night 2022, September 23

Donegal and Derry City and Strabane District will join cities and towns across Ireland to celebrate Culture Night on Friday 23rd September 2022. Culture Night is a night of entirely free entertainment, activity, discovery and adventure when arts and cultural organisations open their doors until late offering lots of inspiring and imaginative free events, tours, talks and performances for people of all ages to enjoy.

Guildhall Taphouse

The Guildhall Taphouse is steeped in history, yet offers a fresh, alternative take on the traditional bar. Housed in a 19th Century Merchant building in the heart of the City’s historic quarter, this comfortable bar is just minutes from Derry’s famous Peace Bridge, the historical City Walls, and the iconic Guildhall itself. Both the kitchen and bar is open seven days a week. Food served daily 12:00 – 18:00.

Blackbird

Great beer tastes better when it’s served with great music, and this is exactly what you get when you visit Blackbird on Foyle Street. Local bands perform live on stage as you enjoy craft brews from Rough Brothers, Northbound and more (as a free house, there’s a rotating draft beer selection), while Irish spirits rub shoulders with exotic concoctions on the cocktail menu.

Walled City Brewery

The Walled City Brewery craft uniquely local, premium quality, fabulously flavoursome food and beer in their multi-award winning brewhouse and restaurant. The brewery offers signature brews created on site, some inspired by the hit show Derry Girls are a firm favourite. From the food menu, flavours of the North West are at the forefront – from Greencastle Fish of the Day and fish croquettes to McAtamney’s succulent Ribeye on the bone.
