19 high speed trains have been purchased by Italy’s state-owned rail company to service a new Paris to London route.
FS Italiane Group has confirmed the service with expectations of launching in 2029.
The order was purchased using the part of the company’s €2 billion investment for expansion in France, as well as this new route. Operated by Trenitalia France, the purchase will also be used across it’s Paris-Lyon, Paris-Milan and Paris-Marseille routes.
Confirming the purchase, Group CEO and General Manager Gianpiero Strisciuglio said:
“This order represents a strategic milestone for FS Group: it strengthens our presence in France, a key market for our international growth, and supports the development of increasingly efficient, sustainable and competitive high-speed services.
“The new trains and the new Maisons-Alfort Pompadour maintenance hub are also fundamental elements for the launch of the Paris–London connection, a project that is central to our vision of the ‘Metro of Europe’, the integrated high-speed network that will increasingly connect Europe’s major cities.”
Passengers can expect on board wifi, enhanced food and beverage offering, along with redesigned interiors.
