Cinque Terre in Italy topped the list as the most Instagrammed village – with a whopping 2,049,711 hashtags. Italy’s Burano village also made the top 5 with over 1 million photos added to the ‘gram’. Indeed, Italy is quite a popular location for village lovers – 15% of the world’s most photographed villages are located here, gaining nearly 4 million hashtags (greater than any other country).
Norway’s Reine fishing village came in second place, with 1,614,863 hashtags. Situated in the isolated Lofoten islands, making it the perfect tranquil holiday destination.
Surprisingly, the fictional Hobbiton village in New Zealand made the top 10 (being the most Instagrammed village in the whole country), with nearly 500,000 hashtags. The fairy tale village was created as a set for Lord of Rings, situated in a rural farmland called the Matamata town. This tiny village has become quite the tourist spot, with various tours taking place every day.
Bibury village was rated the most Instagrammable village in the UK, with over 78,000 hashtags, closely followed by Staithes located in the Scarborough Borough of North Yorkshire. Both villages hold historic backgrounds, bursting with charm – making them great destinations to visit.
