As the turning of the clocks plunge Brits into darker days and gloomy weather, summer holidays already feel like a distant memory. But, for those looking to escape the cold for adventures in the winter sun, the travel experts at Wild Frontiers have provided a list of their top five recommended destinations to visit this winter.

Get ahead of the crowds, as these destinations are also hotly tipped by Wild Frontiers experts to be trending for 2025…

Ghana

October-March is a great time to travel to Ghana due to experiencing the lowest rainfall and slightly lower levels of humidity. Average daytime temperatures throughout the dry season will tend to hover around the upper 20Cs to early 30Cs, with temperatures dropping by about 5 degrees or so in the evenings. The eastern Volta region is the coolest in the country, usually staying below 30 degrees Celsius, a considerable amount higher than British temperatures.

Wild Frontiers has tipped Ghana to be a trending destination for 2025, and today it is a destination of quite extraordinary contrasts. Multi-ethnic, forged by the conflicts of ancient empires and colonial imperialism, it is a land that perfectly encapsulates the rich cultural traditions of West Africa. Wild Frontiers travel experts explain that “Filled with historic castles, African flair and some truly unique encounters with local customs and characters, this is an adventure into a region that is largely still not fixed on the mainstream tourist radar. If one word could describe this journey, it would be genuine.”

Nepal

Marianne, Wild Frontiers Product Manager, says, “Nepal has so much to offer a variety of travellers.  There is a lot of cultural appeal and chances to spend time in remote rural communities and learn about traditional crafts. November is a great time to visit Nepal, as temperatures remain above 17 degrees with little rain, and travellers will be able to see lots of wildlife such as birds migrating to Nepal for the winter. ”

Hotly tipped as a trending destination for 2025 by Wild Frontiers, Nepal is bursting with natural beauty and rich, cultural UNESCO World Heritage Sites, great birding and wildlife viewing and safari options. There are amazing new hotels such as Shinta Mani Mustang, The Nanee and Burhan Wilderness Camp, and the pleasant weather in November makes it a great place to get some winter sun.

Sri Lanka

October to March tends to be the most pleasant months to travel to Sri Lanka, as temperatures will range from 20c to 30c degrees. The cold British winter months are also a great time to visit as in October 2024, Sri Lanka has gone visa-free for a number of countries (UK, US, Canada and Australia included), making it much more easily accessible.

Wild Frontiers travel experts describe Sri Lanka as “a cultural melting pot of Indian, Portuguese, Dutch and British influences, Sri Lanka is a real treat for the senses. Sandwiched between lush mountain greenery and palm-fringed sands, its ancient cities share the landscape with charming colonial architecture, quiet beaches and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.”

Saudi Arabia

Given the extreme summer heat of the desert, Wild Frontiers explains that October to March is the optimum time for visiting Saudi Arabia. At these times of year typically you can expect daytime temperatures to reach 20c – 30c with night times being surprisingly cool, often in the single digits. Rain is rare although not unheard of, so perhaps packing a light rain jacket wouldn’t go amiss.

Enigmatic and intriguing, Saudi Arabia by its very nature is one of the last great adventures left to discover. With Vision 2030 on the horizon, the country continues to build and grow in various sectors and the influx of tourists is no exception. So, along with the great weather and wonderful cultural experiences, Saudi Arabia comes highly recommended as a getaway this winter.

Laos and Cambodia

This beautiful corner of the world is genuinely trailblazing when it comes to the intersection of forward-thinking sustainability and community-based tourism, without sacrificing luxury, making it a perfect winter getaway for Brits seeking an adventure. It is the dry season in Cambodia between November – April, making it a great choice for those who want to travel long haul this winter to visit this corner of the earth. In southern Laos and the whole of Cambodia, the daytime temperatures will generally be 30-35C so Wild Frontiers recommends packing hats and sunscreen.

Travellers looking to escape the British winter can escape the tourist track and experience the ‘real Cambodia’ by visiting incredible initiatives, such as the Kulen Elephant Forest, which protects former working elephants, and supporting local crafts.
