Situated in the heart of the beloved Italian Alps in Northern Italy, the end of autumn is a magical time in Trentino filled with mesmerising views, delicious food and sparkling Trentodoc, world-class ski resorts ready to be enjoyed and fantastic wellness experiences. This transitional time of year has many great activities to offer that are an integral part of the region.

Skiing in the Dolomites as the season starts

The world’s stunning Italian Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, will once again welcome skiing fans from 26 November 2022. Skiers will be able to enjoy the region’s top-quality slopes and wide and well-groomed ski-runs surrounded by incredible views. Trentino offers a relaxed ski experience ensuring that wellness and nature experiences are able to be enjoyed alongside adrenaline adventures, all fuelled by delicious Italian cuisine and heartier mountain fare. The region is lesser-known and provides plenty of peaceful pistes to enjoy the snow without the crowds, and the hefty price tags found across other areas of Europe. The Dolomiti Superski network has great snow and snowmaking systems which will ensure perfect skiing conditions throughout the autumn and winter with 12 ski resorts across the Dolomites, 450 lifts and over 1,200km of trails, which can be conquered by the purchase of single ski pass.

Visit a cheerful Christmas Market in Trento

The main city in Trentino – Trento – boasts magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains and a great variety of monuments, ancient castles and culinary delights, perfect for an autumn or winter getaway as fascinating Alpine and Italian traditions are fused. This is perfectly encapsulated by visiting the Trento Christmas Market, which takes place from 19 November to 6 January 2023 and is heavily influenced by the traditions of the mountains. Visitors can enjoy a festive view set against the backdrop of the distinctly Italian Piazza Duomo as locals enjoy an aperitivo at the end of the working day, as dusk descends on the majestic Dolomites.

Recognised as the greenest city in Italy (according to the Italian environmentalist association Legambiente) and one of the top Italian cities to live in, Trento is the perfect starting point to discover the Trentino region. The cosmopolitan city is rich in heritage, buzzing bars and restaurants that highlight La Dolce Vita in any season. The fascinating inner city, restored over the last several years, is brimming with ancient sites waiting to be discovered, including Roman remains, a beautiful main square dotted with cafes, the Buonconsiglio Castle, Palazzo Pretorio, the fountain of Neptune, as well as churches and cathedrals

Get lost in Rovereto’s MART Museum

Beautiful Rovereto, located less than half an hour from Trentino’s main city Trento, boasts a rich and fascinating heritage. Travellers can enjoy exploring Rovereto’s old town with its curvy and cobbled streets, as well as historical old buildings containing a noble history of Rovereto and the region.

Culture vultures will enjoy getting lost at MART – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Rovereto and Trento – which is one of the most visited museums and a top destination for modern and contemporary art in Italy. It is home to around 20,000 pieces of art such as paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and installations, as well as temporary exhibits, events, and workshops. From 8 December to 19 March 2023, the museum will be hosting a unique ‘Giotto and the twentieth-century’ exhibition, which will feature works by modern and contemporary artists such as Henri Matisse, Mark Rothko and Yves Klein, who were inspired by the art of Giotto, the master who revolutionised medieval painting. After a great day of discovering the treasures of the museum, visitors can relax and taste mouth-watering dishes at Michelin-star restaurant ‘Senso’.
