As more holidaymakers seek seasonal escapes closer to home, research has revealed the UK’s top winter day trip destinations.
The UK’s most sought-after cities for autumn and winter day trips have been revealed, and Bath has taken the top spot.
Research conducted by Kia has ranked the top 10 destinations based on scenic beauty, average Trip Advisor reviews, cultural attractions, parking affordability, and electric vehicle (EV) accessibility.
From Georgian streets dusted with fairy lights, to riverside cathedrals and world-famous winter festivals, the top three, which also includes Durham and Edinburgh, boast cosy cafes, magical markets, and sustainable travel options.
The study highlights a growing appetite among Brits for seasonal adventures across the country, with “winter day trip” searches up 225% and interest in Bath alone rising 67%.
The study has revealed the the UK’s top 3 cities for autumn/winter day trips are:
1 – Bath
Bath claims the title as the ultimate winter escape, with its historic Georgian architecture, Roman Baths, and the Christmas market lighting up the city centre from 27th November this year. Visitors can soak in the rooftop Thermae Bath Spa, stroll along the picturesque No.1 Royal Crescent, or catch a show at the Theatre Royal. With Bath offering 118 public EV chargers, it’s an ideal destination for drivers of electric vehicles like the Kia EV6.
2- Durham
Crowned ‘Best UK Destination for 2025’ at the recent Group Leisure & Travel Awards, Durham’s cobbled streets and UNESCO listed cathedral skyline are pure winter magic. The city comes alive with the Christmas Festival, taking place on 5th-7th December 2025, and nostalgic celebrations at the award-winning Beamish Museum. Affordable parking, 482 public EV chargers and easy access to surrounding countryside make it a top pick for festive explorers.
3- Edinburgh
Scotland’s capital sparkles in winter, hosting one of Europe’s most iconic Christmas markets in Princes Street Gardens from 15th November and world-famous Hogmanay celebrations (New Years Eve). With 714 EV chargers – the most in the top 10 – and the best average TripAdvisor rating of the top three, Edinburgh offers a perfect mix of heritage, lights, and lively winter culture.
Highlighting the findings, a Kia spokesperson stated , “We wanted to highlight destinations that truly capture the magic of local adventures, and these cities are perfect examples.”
