With the release of the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid in May 2023, Disney fever has once again taken over the nation.

With an increasing demand for all things Disney, holidaymakers are looking to combine their love for travel with Disney magic. According to Google Trends, searches for “Disney Cruise” have increased by 284% in the last week alone in the UK.

Independent travel agency Iglu Cruise offers Disney Cruises throughout the year. With expeditions in the Mediterranean, Norwegian Fjords, Iceland, Greece, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and even the Arctic, there are over 60 cruise routes to choose from waiting to be explored.

With a huge variety of entertainment and things to do aboard the ships, Global Supply Director, Dave Mills from Iglu Cruise, has listed five things that you can expect on a Disney Cruise.

  1. Meet your favourite Disney characters

One of the best things about Disney Cruise is the chance to have one-on-one interactions with the Disney characters we all know and love. Guests onboard have the opportunity to meet their favourite characters at the deck parties that occur in the evenings onboard the ships.

From Mickey and Minnie, Elsa and Anna from Frozen and even Ariel from Little Mermaid, many iconic characters can be found wandering around the decks. Guests also have the opportunity to take photos with the characters throughout their trip.

This is truly a Disney lover’s dream and one of the most memorable parts of an expedition.  Whether you’re joining Mickey for a Sail-Away party, or dressing up as a pirate during Pirate Night, there’s no better way to celebrate your trip than with the characters themselves.

There are also other familiar faces to look out for, including Marvel superheroes like Spider-Man, Black Panther and Iron Man and characters from Guardians of the Galaxy.

  1. Watch a live show

The Walt Disney Theatre is where the magic of Disney comes to life during a Disney Cruise, with shows that give guests the chance to experience some of the most iconic fairy tales right before their eyes.

Guests can sing along to their favourite songs while sailing across the seas to destinations all over the world. From Cinderella and Tangled to Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid, you can enjoy Broadway-style entertainment even when you’re at sea.

There are currently over 30 live shows being performed, with professionally trained and talented singers, dancers and actors bringing the stories to life. The shows range from West-End-style musicals or Disney classics, to Marvel heroic encounters and Pixar parties.

  1. Gaming and play areas

For youngsters, there are many playrooms to be explored aboard Disney Cruise which allow for playful experiences. The wonderful world of fairies, monsters, toys and undersea adventure journeys can be brought to life in Disney-inspired play areas located throughout the ships.

Andy’s Room, inspired by the hit movie trilogy Toy Story, is a multi-level Toy Story-themed space den, complete with a Slinky Dog slide and climbing area.

There is also Monsters Academy, the Monsters, Inc. theme room with play structure computers and interactive games, as well as the Disney Infinity Game Room, a high-tech play with virtual gaming.

For Marvel fans, there is a Super Hero Academy, with arts and crafts and video games to suit all ages. For those who enjoy dressing up, you can also visit Pixie Hollow, Tinker Bell’s world of magic.

  1. Relax in the spa and fitness facilities

Disney cruises aren’t all about the kids, there are plenty of spots for the adults to relax and unwind whilst sailing the seas.

Fitness centres aboard Disney ships offer state-of-the-art exercise clubs with stunning ocean views. Each facility features everything you need a work out during your voyage, including treadmills, weight machines and swimming pools.

Guests can also enjoy private classes offering aerobics, yoga, pilates and personal training sessions.

The onboard spa facilities offer relaxation with plenty of 5 five luxury spa and beauty treatments. Facials, body wraps and aromatherapy are all available to those who want some downtime. Guests can also enjoy Swedish massages, aroma stone therapy, Thai herbal massages and more.

  1. Enjoy world-class fine dining

No holiday is complete without some delicious food. Disney Cruise offers an abundance of restaurants to fit the needs of all those who embark on a voyage. From fine dining, sweet treats, cafes, tea rooms and juice bars, all the food and drink you will need can be enjoyed aboard the ships. Most of the restaurants are also themed around a different Disney character or story.

For those looking for some entertainment while they eat, live shows and dining character experiences are available, where you can sit back and enjoy listening to your favourite stories and musicals, performed by trained professionals.

24-hour room service is also available whenever you may need a quick bite to eat or some snacks. There are venues that cater exclusively for adults, complete with ocean views.

Global Supply Director, Dave Mills from Iglu Cruise added: “If you love Disney, this is definitely the adventure for you. For as little as £895 per person, you can set sail across the seas, visiting some of the most remarkable places in the world, whilst also being immersed in everything Disney along the way.
