Let’s Go Barbie: Channel Your Inner Barbie at These Five Destinations

The world as we know it has become perfectly pink in anticipation of Greta Gerwig’s latest film Barbie

The world as we know it has become perfectly pink in anticipation of Greta Gerwig’s latest film Barbie, hitting the big screen on July 21. Visit The USA has rounded up five destinations for travellers to channel their inner Barbie, from Beach Barbie soaking up the Floridian sunshine, to Cowgirl Barbie in the Wild West of Wyoming.

Sports Barbie

Get the neon knee pads and leotards at the ready and become a real-life sporting Barbie by skating along the iconic boardwalk in Venice Beach, California, as seen in the film’s trailer. Located on the west coast between Venice and Santa Monica, Perry’s Café and Beach Rentals offers roller skates or bikes to cruise along the promenade. Soak up the eclectic atmosphere of Venice Beach, from the famous Muscle Beach outdoor gym, surfers catching some SoCal waves, vendors selling local produce and hand crafted goods and music blasting out across the boardwalk. Take a break from the action at Belle’s Beach House, and find a relaxed Tiki paradise serving delicious Hawaiian food or head up to Hotel Erwin’s rooftop bar for the best sunset views and sundowners.

Cowgirl Barbie

Saddle up to explore the Wyoming countryside, where cowboy culture and rugged natural beauty are at its heart. Head to Eatons’ Ranch, the country’s first and oldest dude ranch, for a classic Wild West experience. Offering horseback rides through the Big Horn National Forest, fly fishing in the mountain waters of Wolf Creek or the chance to explore Sheridan, fondly known as the “King of Cowboy Towns”. This quintessential small-town is known for its big outdoor adventure, incredible views of rivers and picturesque canyons and is home to  Blacktooth Brewing Company (named after Black Tooth Mountain).

Hot Wheels Barbie

Hit the road in a convertible and cruise along the Great River Road in Minnesota with the roof down. Start in the buzzing city of Minneapolis and spot the five-story tall mural dedicated to Minnesota-native Bob Dylan, before embarking on an adventure along the Mississippi River. Head to Duluth to be charmed by panoramic scenery of the Great Lakes, Lake Superior, whilst exploring the historical Split Rock Lighthouse that sits atop the rocky cliffs in the distance, or get up close on the Superior Hiking Trail. Just north, Voyageurs National Park is worth a night drive for its breathtaking views of the northern lights. By day, it’s best to book a guided boat tour to explore the park and its waterfalls.

Beach Barbie

With miles of white sandy beaches, Florida’s St.Pete is the perfect place for a beach getaway. Enter the Barbie world with a stay at the legendary ‘Pink Palace’ – The Don CeSar. Once the playground for the rich and famous during the Golden Age of Jazz, today the hotel combines old-world charm with modern sophistication. Beyond the Barbie-hued crown jewel on the Gulf Shores lies Egmont Key State Park, Honeymoon Island or Caladesi Island State Park for a day of snorkelling or dolphin-watching from the shores. Away from the beach, the thriving art scene brings St.Pete to life, and a walking mural tour is the best way to capture the colour of the city.

Fashion Barbie

Bring out the inner Fashionista with a visit to New York City by spending the day on Fifth Avenue, a haven for shopaholics and tourists alike. Venture into Midtown to the iconic Bloomingdale’s to fill the staple Little Brown Bag with pink purchases, and make a stop by flagship Macy’s, the world’s largest department store. Delve into the history of fashion with a visit to the Museum at The Fashion Institute of Technology, with 50,000 garments on display and curated exhibits from Food & Fashion to Latin American Fashion Design. Sweeten the Barbie dream at the Museum of Ice Cream, a wonderland of pretty and pink immersive installations – make a splash in a pool filled with sprinkles, hop on a glowing fuschia subway simulation or indulge in unlimited ice cream in a variety of flavours.
