La Gomera – The Island of Landscapes

Dreaming of an authentic nature holiday? The stunning island of La Gomera, the hidden gem of the Canary Islands, will put your imagination to shame

From exploring national parks and valleys to unwinding on the beach, experience the true essence of La Gomera this summer.

Northern Heights With a View

Nature lovers get the opportunity to discover Garajonay National Park, where you can explore Europe’s largest laurel forest. Garajonay National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which isn’t surprising as the evergreen forest is home to beautiful, rare flora and fauna.

Visit El Cedro, a forest that almost seems like you’ve entered a fairy-tale. Its tangled trees and green scenery take you right to El Chorro de El Cedro, the island’s highest waterfall.

Or, pack your hiking gear and go on an adventure to Alto de Garajonay – the highest point of La Gomera with an altitude of 1,487 m. It’s high enough to see the other Canary Islands in the distance. Once you arrive, the 360-degree view is sure to take your breath away.

Valleys of the West

Valle Gran Rey, the picturesque village in the western part of La Gomera, is a must-see. Some of the most beautiful beaches can be visited nearby, such as Playa de Vueltas. This small yet charming black sand beach with calm waters is perfect for a beach day with the family.

While you’re there, visit Mirador del Palmarejo and prepare to be amazed by views of the valley’s imposing rock walls, pastel-coloured houses and terraced hillsides, or as the locals call it, “the walls of La Gomera.”

The terraces reflect the island’s rich history as they were made by ancient inhabitants for agricultural purposes. Today, these beautiful features contribute to La Gomera as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Another must-visit is the old town centre of Vallehermoso, where you can buy local products from the town’s well-known orchards. Up to the north and a short boat trip away is Los Organos, a towering formation made from cooled volcanic magma and years of sea erosion. This unique monument created by nature is one of the island’s major landmarks.

Activities to Explore

Want to admire nature’s finest from above? Take off and paraglide your way through the mountains, taking in the mesmerising scenery of one of the island’s oldest villages, Agulo.

You could also get active with a guided tour. The most scenic routes have been selected to get you that unforgettable experience while exploring the highlights. At the same time, you’ll learn more about La Gomera’s flora and fauna.

Exploring La Gomera on your own? It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an experienced hiker; the island has a large network of walking trails so you can discover its natural wonders at your own pace.
