India

One of four Worldwide Small Group tours is the brand-new Golden Triangle, Udaipur & Jodhpur. This 15-day intimate journey delves into the heart of India. Staying in unique heritage hotels, with centuries of history, secrets of India’s kaleidoscopic cities are waiting to be uncovered.  Sunrise at the Taj Mahal, high tea at a local house in Agra and heritage rail journeys all await on this incredible trip.

The fourteen-day Five-Star India’s Golden Triangle, Tigers & Shimla, has been introduced to the portfolio for 2019, during which travellers will “marvel at historic temples, spot an elusive tiger and visit beautiful palaces and gardens.” The full kaleidoscope of India is explored, from the tranquillity of Shimla to the enigmatic Delhi, visiting world famous icons and colourful sights.

For those that want to discover a lesser-explored side of India, the Assam & the Mighty Brahmaputra tour certainly fits the bill. Tracing the route of the mighty Brahmaputra on this thirteen-day journey, the myriad cultures that line the river can be discovered. Seven-days on board the MV Mahabaahu, a unique view of the river can be experienced. This floating part of the holiday is a wonderful experience, with cultural evenings and morning yoga. Become immersed in the traditions of this unique corner of the world with excursions to tea plantations and a jute mill, visits to village, a boat safari and a selection of fascinating talks on the cultures, wildlife and history of the area.

South Africa

Marvel at the wonders of southern Africa with the new Victoria Falls, Cape Town & the Garden Route tour. Uncovering the natural beauty of Africa on this sixteen-day trip includes the lush Garden Route, the majestic Victoria Falls and a truly elegant rail journey. South Africa, Botswana and Zambia are explored in style with two days of this tour spent on the Pride of Africa. The iconic train offers “unparalleled luxury and elegance, which recaptures the romance of the golden age of rail travel”, while travelling through some of South Africa’s most beautiful landscapes.

South Korea

A destination first for Great Rail Journeys is the Timeless South Korea tour.  The “Land of the Morning Calm” is becoming ever more popular with travellers, leading to the introduction of this nine-day adventure. Maintaining authentic charm, South Korea “guarantees many unique and truly memorable experiences, from ancient temples to tasty cuisine.” A surreal experience on this trip is a excursion to the demilitarised zone, that acts as a buffer between North and South Korea. Taking a glimpse into the ‘hermit kingdom’ really brings home the decades of tension that has existed between these two nations. Travellers will “marvel at historic temples, spot an elusive tiger and visit beautiful palaces and gardens.” The full kaleidoscope of India is explored, from the tranquillity of Shimla to the enigmatic Delhi, visiting world famous icons and colourful sights.

Louise Heatley, Head of Product and Contracting said “Not only have we added brand new tours for 2020, but we have also introduced the first Worldwide Small Group tours. Following an unprecedented amount of interest in the European Small Group range, we are excited to extend the destinations further. We have looked at some of our best-loved itineraries and recreated them for small groups. With no more than 20 holidaymakers joining each tour, guests are able to access accommodation and excursions that are not possible with larger groups. Customers can expect epic rail journeys, breath-taking scenery and dynamic cities on the tours within this brochure.”

All tours include the services of a dedicated professional UK Tour Manager from start to finish, quality 4 & 5-star hotel accommodation, local guides, a comprehensive programme of excursions, many meals in the hotel and at local restaurants and first-class service from specialist tour advisors.
