European Phone Roaming Charges To Remain Free For Another Decade

The European Commission has confirmed that free roaming for anyone travelling to Europe, will be free for another decade.

Have you experienced being on holiday or on a business trip where you have paid an extortionate price added on to your phone bill for any calls you made or texts sent?
And then finding out when you return home that you owe hundreds of euros on top of your usual phone bill.

You will be glad to know that The European Commission has confirmed that free roaming for anyone travelling to Europe, will be free for another decade.

The regulations were initially put in place in 2017 after years of anger from customers and has now been extended until 2032. So you can now use your phone as you normally would at home.

The European Commission said: “Citizens will be able to call, text and use mobile data while travelling within the EU at no extra costs and with the same quality they experience at home. They will have improved access to emergency communications regardless of where they are in Europe, and they will have the right to clear information when a service they use while roaming might cause inadvertent extra charges.

The regulation will begin July 2022, they said.

NI Travel News are waiting on clarification on whether this will apply to Northern Ireland.
