Best Places to Catch a Wave in The Islands of Tahiti

During French Polynesia’s dry season from May to August, the surf is in its perfect condition for visitors of all levels

Tahiti has garnered the reputation as a well respected surf destination, home to the world-class surf break Teahupo’o. However, catching a wave in Tahiti is not just about surfing in Teahupo’o. During French Polynesia’s dry season from May to August, the surf is in its perfect condition for visitors of all levels. Breaking along the south and southwest coasts, reef breaks boasting large hollow waves are rife. For those less experienced on a board, October to March is a popular season with lighter swells lining the Tahitian shores, giving the best opportunity for alternative ways to explore the surf. With only a year to go until French Polynesia hosts the Olympic surfing competition, we round up the best places in The Islands of Tahiti to catch a wave.
