Kayak on the three rivers 

Pittsburgh’s unique positioning at the point of three rivers makes it an ideal location for a day of water sports.. There’s three kayak rental spots in the area, but the most scenic location is the North Shore which is located under the Roberto Clemente Bridge and next to PNC Park. From here, visitors can paddle around Point State Park, venture up the Allegheny River alongside the city banks, or head out further to join the Monongahela or Ohio Rivers.

Mind the GAP 

A world class path, The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) is ideal for all levels of cyclists. The 150-mile rail-to-trails conversion starts in downtown Pittsburgh and winds through valleys, snakes around mountains with some of the most beautiful scenery in the USA en route. Pittsburgh is the perfect spot for launching or concluding a journey along the GAP, with opportunities to explore the walkable city’s Downtown and South Side.

Rock Climb in the Laurel Highlands

Just an hour outside of Pittsburgh, rock climbing enthusiasts will find plenty of places to enjoy nature while scaling the mountains of the Laurel Highlands. Ohiopyle State Park is a popular spot amongst locals and offers breathtaking views. Those looking to take up the sport should receive a 1-1 lesson teaching everything from basics of climbing knots and belay systems to rappelling techniques and the best locations to climb. For those experienced climbers, Meadow Run Climbing Area, Bruner Run Climbing Area, School House Crag and Coll’s Cove are must visits.

Take a hike

Offering 180 miles of trails across nine parks, The Allegheny County Parks is a great starting point for hiking in Pittsburgh. download the bespoke Trails App to decipher the level of difficulty, length and elevation, and take exploration to the next level with 24 miles of trails that run right through the centre of the city. For a more relaxed walking adventure, dip in and out of The Three Rivers Heritage Trail System -a 33-mile trail and greenway system that goes through Downtown Pittsburgh running along both sides of the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers. The Trail connects Downtown to adjacent city areas including Oakland, the North Shore, the South Side and the Strip District- so its ideal for a morning stroll followed by lunch.

Seek Thrills at Kennywood

Home to two of the fastest and tallest coasters in Pennsylvania, Kennywood is America’s finest traditional amusement park and an amazing destination for families. Celebrating its 125th anniversary, this year, guests can enjoy a mix of thrills and classic rides, including seven roller coasters.
