Two Local Contenders Unsuccessful At World Routes Awards

Belfast City Airport and Belfast International Airport's Uel Hoey were in the running for Awards last night at the World Routes Conference in Barcelona - but sadly neither were the judges' choice as eventual winners.

Uel Hoey, Business Development Director of Belfast International Airport, was shortlisted in a new awards category, to celebrate the individuals who make an outstanding contribution to route development.

The winner was Léon Verhallen, Brussels Airport’s Head of Aviation Development, who scooped the award for helping to secure six new airlines and 17 new destinations in the last year, including routes to Shanghai (Hainan Airlines) and Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific).

In the category where Belfast City was shortlisted - for airports with a throughput of under four million passengers - Nuremberg Airport in Germany won the award while Vancouver took the award for the 20-50 million passengers category. Prague and Singapore Changi were also winners of their respective categories.

Steven Small, Brand Director of Routes, presented the awards. He said: “Congratulations to all of our winners who have impressed the judges with their achievements. The awards evening has been a brilliant way to bring the aviation industry together to celebrate success."
