Belfast City and Dublin Airport Nominated for Prestigious Awards

Belfast, Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports have been nominated in the prestigious World Routes Marketing Awards 2017 which takes place in Barcelona in September.

George Best Belfast City Airport has been nominated alongside Cork and Shannon airports in the under four million passengers category, while Dublin Airport has been nominated in the category of over 25 million passengers.

Dublin Airport won its category in 2014 and the overall award in 2016 when Cork was highly commended. Shannon has been shortlisted for the fifth consecutive year and has won twice in the past three years (2016 and 2014), also being ‘Highly Commended’ in 2015 and 2013. Tourism Ireland has been nominated in the Destination Award category which it won in 2015.

Katy Best, Commercial and Marketing Manager at Belfast City Airport, said: “The World Routes Marketing Awards are some of the most prestigious in the industry and to have our work recognised by airlines as world-class is testament to the work we do marketing Belfast City Airport, and indeed Belfast and Northern Ireland as a destination, to potential new airlines.”

The airport has been named the Most Convenient Airport in the World in a study by The Telegraph and more recently named Northern Ireland’s Responsible Company of the Year at the annual Business in the Community Responsible Business Awards.

Katy added: “This year has so far been another successful one for Belfast City Airport with the Routes Europe Conference in April presenting a wonderful opportunity to showcase Belfast and Northern Ireland to airlines from across Europe, and further afield.

“We are really thrilled that for a second year in a row airlines from across the world have recognised our efforts as best practice re-affirming that what we’re doing in the market is not only supporting our existing partners but capturing the attention of potential new airlines and destinations for Northern Ireland.”

Katy will be accompanied by Chief Executive of the airport, Brian Ambrose, and members of her Commercial team at World Routes in Barcelona this September.

Welcoming the inclusion of Shannon Airport in the shortlist again, Airport Managing Director Andrew Murphy said: “Our consistency in these awards is remarkable. They are the most prestigious awards in the industry annually and we have either won our category outright or been shortlisted every year since becoming an independent entity.

“This is testament to the hard work of our team at Shannon and they deserve huge credit for keeping us right up there at the top of the industry globally.”

Said Head of Aviation Development for Shannon Airport Declan Power: “Being shortlisted yet again speaks volumes about Shannon’s global standing in the industry. We come from incredible proud beginnings as an airport but these awards show that Shannon still rates right up there among the best airports in the world in the eyes of airlines. We work hard at keeping our all our customers, whether airlines or passengers, happy and our success year-in-year-out in these awards shows that it is paying off.”

Cork Airport’s Managing Director Niall MacCarthy said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award, particularly because we were put forward by our airline partners. In efforts to gain new routes for the airport and the South of Ireland region, it has been crucial to our strategic plan to also maintain support and promotion of our existing and long-standing routes.

“We are accompanied by a really strong calibre of international airports in our category. The Awards, held during World Routes 2017 will be an excellent opportunity for our team to also meet and plan with prospective airlines for the year ahead”, he added.
