Perhaps the greatest tribute to Northern Ireland's top Travel Trade exhibition is that the seventh annual Big Travel Trade Event at the Hilton, Templepatrick last week turned out to be just what everyone expected - absolutely superb.

Typical Sparkling Golf Classic Weather is a Winner

It was traditional Northern Ireland Travel News Golf Classic weather last Wednesday, dry throughout the day with the sun splitting the trees as the golfers put their feet up at the end of a sparkling day's sport.

Charity Ballot Raises £1,400 for Aundrea's Army

The charity ballot at this year's Big Travel Trade Event raised just over £1400 for Aundrea's Army, the group of fundraisers which has been doing sterling work in the last few months for Thomas Cook Cluster Manager Aundrea Bannatyne.

The superb top prize in the Ballot was two return tickets to Abu Dhabi courtesy of Etihad Airways.

Alternative Awards Another Big Hit at Gala Dinner

Travel agents, exhibitors and sponsors were able to have a laugh, relax and unwind at the third Blue Insurance Alternative Travel Awards which were hosted at Northern Ireland Travel News' Gala dinner on the Wednesday evening of the two-day Big Travel Trade Event.

The Alternative Awards were again sponsored by Blue Insurance with Blue's Jason Whelan doing the presentations in co-ordination with the irrepressible Julian Simmons as MC.

Meanwhile, the presentations by Michael Collins and Niamh Waters of TravelMedia.ie on social media and its influence on the industry brought a great reaction and a lot of interest from travel agents.

Indeed, the presentation, 'Secure That Sale with Social Media - Facebook Advertising Tips, Co-Op's & Case Studies,attracted such comment that some agents expressed a need to learn more about the subject.

ABTA has today launched its political and consumer-facing campaign, Stop Sickness Scams, with the support of its Members and partners from across the travel industry.

Stop Sickness Scams calls on the new Government to crackdown on fake holiday sickness claims and warns holidaymakers about the consequences of making a false claim.

New Stopover Pass to Beat 'Wasted' Travel Time

Icelandair, which recently launched a new service from Belfast City to Reykjavik and onwards to a number of US and Canadian destinations, has launched a new free service, Icelandair Stopover Pass, which aims to defeat wasted time whilst travelling.

The service allows passengers to transform their boarding pass into a Stopover Pass, offering them access to series of entertaining performances.
