Name of Writing Legend Selected for New Irish Ferries Ship

Irish Ferries has chosen W B Yeats as the name for its new 144million Euro cruise ferry now being built in Germany for service on routes between Ireland, UK and France.

The name was chosen after it had drawn 'strong support' from the public in an online competition that attracted nearly 100,000 entries.

Call for £1 Levy on Air Fares to Support Monarch Passengers

An influential travel organisation is calling for an immediate levy on all air fares to provide financial aid for passengers hit by the Monarch collapse.

The Independent Tour operators' Association wants a £1 levy imposed on all airfares and has criticised the Government for having failed to introduce such support as a levy in the past.

Welcome for New Aer Lingus Philly Service from Dublin

Dublin Airport has welcomed the announcement by Aer Lingus that it will launch a new direct transatlantic service to Philadelphia next year.

Lift Ban on Sharm El Sheikh, Says Parliamentary Group

A Parliamentary group has called for the lifting of the travel ban on Egyptian holiday destination Sharm El Sheik as more airlines could be at risk of collapse, as was the case with Monarch last weekend.

The Chief Executive of Monarch, which went into administration in the early hours of Monday, said that terrorist attacks and and resulting travel bans in areas such as Egypt, as one of the 'root causes' behind the airline's demise.

EU Regulators Refuse to Get Involved in Gatwick Slots Controversy

The EU has refused to comment on the possibility that Ryanair have ignored EU rules by discontinuing its Belfast International to Gatwick service for the winter season.

Last week Ryanair, dogged by controversy in recent weeks after it announced thousands of flight cancellations, announced a new raft of flight withdrawals during the winter season, aimed at freeing up 25 aircraft and getting the airline's schedules back on an even keel.

Icelandair Launches New Reykjavik Service from Dublin

Dublin Airport has welcomed the announcement from Icelandair that it will launch a new six-times weekly, year-round service to Reykjavik from May 2018.
