All Systems Go for New Norwegian US Services

A technical problem which will delay delivery of the first Max 737 aircraft Norwegian had planned using on its flights to the US from Belfast, Cork and Dublin, will not affect the start of the services from Ireland to the US on July 1.

The airline is due to begin flying from Belfast International, Cork and Dublin to the northeastern US next month but a minor technical issue is holding up delivery of the first of the Boeing 737 Max craft it intended to use on the routes. Instead Norwegian will use six existing Boeing 737 800s.

City Airport Airline Plans to Improve Website for Customers

Major operator at Belfast City Airport Flybe has outlined plans to cut capacity on its network to help curb losses of just under £20 million for the year ending March 31.

The airline said this year it would also embark on a three-year project to digitalise and 'build further resilience' into its IT platform.

Big Day for Pipe Bands at Stormont

Belfast is tuning up to host the UK Pipe Band Championships this Saturday, June 10 with 100 of the finest pipe bands, drum majors and Highland dancers competing to be crowned champions.

Organised by Belfast City Council and The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, this is the fourth consecutive year that the competition has been held in the city.

Virgin Atlantic Trebles Seats Belfast to Orlando

Virgin Atlantic is increasing the number of flights from Belfast International Airport, as it announces its biggest ever season operating from the city.

From 2018, the airline's Belfast to Orlando route will run from March to September, more than trebling the number of seats from the Northern Irish capital to the sunshine state.

New Route to Reykjavik, And on to US and Canada

As of today, Northern Ireland travellers will have a new option to Reykjavik and onwards to the US and Canada, as Icelandair begins it's new service from Belfast City Airport (BHD) to Reykjavik (KEF).

The new year-round service will operate up to three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Consumer Council Advice After BA Disruption

In light of the recent British Airways IT failure, The Consumer Council for Northern Ireland is reminding all air passengers affected by air travel disruption that their rights are protected under EU legislation.

Speaking about passenger rights, Scott Kennerley, Head of Transport Policy at The Consumer Council said: "Those passengers caught up in disruption caused by the British Airways IT failure should by law have been provided with support and assistance.

Almost 1,000 Dublin Airport Screening Staff This Summer

Almost 1,000 screening staff will be on duty at Dublin Airport this summer which is set to be the airport's the busiest on record. More than 1.3 million seats have been added across the airport's route network this summer season, representing a six per cent increase in capacity over last year.

Dublin Airport has recruited more than 200 extra staff over the past 12 months to cope with growing passenger numbers and will have almost 1,000 security screening staff working on a 24-hour shift basis this summer.
