P&O Says Freight Traffic Best Third Quarter Since 2011

P&O Ferries saw the highest number of lorries and trailers travelling on its ferries between Larne and Cairnryan in the third quarter of the year than it has in any Q3 since 2011.

The ferry and logistics company - which operates the shortest and most frequent ferry services between Northern Ireland and mainland Britain - carried 53,305 lorries and trailers on its ships in the months of July, August and September.

New Guide to Belfast for French Visitors Launched

A new guidebook to Belfast, called Belfast L'Essentiel, was launched in Paris, on the Tourism Ireland stand at IFTM (International French Travel Market), the largest travel trade exhibition in France.

The guidebook features lots of recommendations for French people planning a trip to Belfast - including great places to visit, eat and shop, as well as information about excursions from the city around Northern Ireland.

Wizz Air Plans UK Company to Beat Brexit Uncertainty

Wizz Air, which operates services to Vilnius, Lithuania and Katowice, Poland, from Belfast International Airport, has established a company in the UK and is considering applying for a UK Air Operators Certificate (AOC) in light of Brexit uncertainty.

The mover is being considered by the low cost carrier so that it can continue operating flights to and from Britain in the event that no aviation deal is agreed.

Iconic Poppies Sculpture Opens at Ulster Museum

The iconic poppy sculpture Weeping Window by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper will opens on Saturday, October 14, at the Ulster Museum, Belfast.

The poppies will be on site until December 3, 2017 as part of the UK-wide tour organised by 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary.

Dublin Named Airport of the Year in its Awards Category

Dublin Airport has won a major global airport award at the prestigious CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence.

Dublin Airport was named Airport of the Year in the category for medium-sized airports that have fewer than 30 million passengers per annum, while Amsterdam Schiphol won the category for large airports with more than 30 million passengers per year.

ABTA Welcomes Further Crackdown on False Sickness Claims

ABTA has welcomed the Government's Call for Evidence to help drive the crackdown on the holiday sickness claims culture.

A statement from the Travel organisation said: "ABTA strongly welcomes the Call for Evidence announced today by the Government, in particular the commitment to urgently address the loophole in the law which is allowing companies to unduly profit from false holiday sickness claims.

Dublin Airport Sets New September Passenger Record

 

More than 2.7 million passengers passed through Dublin Airport last month, a six per cent increase on last year, making it the busiest September in the airport's 77-year history.

Passenger numbers to and from continental Europe increased by eight per cent with almost 1.5 million passengers travelling to European destinations during the month. Just over, 813,000 passengers travelled to UK destinations in September, which is a one per cent decrease over the same period last year.

Jet2holidays Overtakes Thomas Cook to Become Second Largest UK Tour Operator

Latest ATOL data published by the Civil Aviation Authority has revealed that Jet2holidays is now officially the second biggest tour operator in the UK and has overtaken Thomas Cook for second spot.

The Leeds-based operator is now licenced by the CAA to carry 2.94 million passengers, an increase of more than 660,000 passengers on the previous 12 months.
